Senior Software Engineer — Wi-Fi SoC firmware, Zephyr, secure boot, and low-power embedded systems

Bristol, England

Experience
  • Senior Software Engineer

Nordic Semiconductor Sep 2025 - Present

Firmware for Nordic's next-generation low-power Wi-Fi SoC, focused on secure boot, power management and Zephyr bring-up.

    • Secure boot and root of trust with MCUboot, TF-M and a trusted execution environment
    • Zephyr bring-up for the new SoC, with fixes contributed upstream
    • Low-power Wi-Fi firmware using DTIM, TWT and long sleep schedules
    • Pre-silicon validation on FPGA and Cadence Palladium emulators
    • Started the team's LLM tooling initiative, including custom MCP servers and a skill repository
  • Senior Embedded Software Engineer

    Domin Oct 2024 - Sep 2025

Firmware for a super-sport race-car electro-hydraulic power steering (EHPS) system, plus the test automation around it.

    • Wrote the Cortex-M4 firmware driving a 4 kW, 12 V three-phase BLDC motor that generates the steering pressure
    • Worked on the device's security, including secure boot
    • Built a Behave test rig that emulated the car over CAN using .dbc messages
    • Enabled the teams to run system-level verification against our local rig by injecting their CAN signals into the system
    • Guided younger engineers as a senior member of the team
  • Lead Software Engineer

    Dyson Nov 2021 - Sep 2024

Autonomous-robot software across two teams: the functional-safety software team, and the embedded-Linux platform team handling power and communication.

    • Developed firmware to functional-safety standards and wrote the reports for the certification process
    • Led the migration of the safety controller from uC/OS-II to FreeRTOS
    • Automated the safety-standard test suite to run daily on CI
    • Refactored the codebase to improve RAM and flash usage
    • Designed Linux-to-Cortex-M communication using VirtIO and OpenAMP, and worked between teams to resolve inter-team bugs
    • Built command-line and UI debugging tools in Rust
  • Member of Technical Staff

Maxim Integrated (now Analog Devices) May 2020 - Oct 2021

Worked closely with customers onboarding their code onto our health sensors, providing tailored drivers and hands-on development support.

    • Delivered tailored drivers and example apps for the MAXREFDES104 wrist-worn health platform (PPG, ECG, accelerometer)
    • Built an app streaming sensor data over BLE and USB-CDC with FatFS local storage
    • Designed a queue-based API standardising communication between the application processor and the sensorhub
  • Embedded Software Developer

    Borda Technology Jul 2017 - May 2020

Low-power Bluetooth products for hospital real-time location systems, including patient-flow tracking and infant safety.

    • Championed Bluetooth Angle of Arrival: built the demo, presented it to management, and led the company to join the Bluetooth SIG
    • Led an early alpha-customer partnership with a silicon manufacturer, making Borda an early adopter of BLE AoA; the product line was rebuilt around it
    • Developed a low-power Cortex-M3 patient tag with a BLE bootloader for OTA updates
    • Led an end-of-line test environment with a GATT-caching app to speed up production testing
    • Mentored interns through interviews, training and project guidance
